I just heard over the radio that a diver died at the Koala dive site in Mabini. Has anybody got any details? We were just there last weekend. It's a relatively easy and shallow drift dive. I wonder what happened.http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/regions/03/25/12/globe-exec-drowns-after-scuba-diving-batangas

A female diver drowned in Batangas, Philippines -

From ABS-CBN News :

BATANGAS,
Philippines - A 32-year-old sales manager of Globe Telecom Inc. died while scuba diving in Mabini town Saturday (March 24, 2012) afternoon, police said.

Chief Inspector Elpidio Duenas, Batangas Police Public Information Officer, identified the victim as Myla Rose Cruz, a resident of 14-A Ponte Salcedo,
Valero St., Makati City.

Together with her boyfriend and another friend, Cruz went to Koala Dive Site in Barangay Bagalangit.

She failed to resurface from the sea. Cruz’s body was retrieved a few meters away from the shoreline around 4:00 p.m. by another diver, identified as Jason Mendoza.

Cruz’s boyfriend Lauro Vives, who was her diving buddy, resurfaced from the sea ahead of the victim because he felt dizzy.

Cruz and Vives were certified advanced open water divers.

Police Inspector Florentino Buenafe, deputy police chief of Mabini, said that “based on the rules of the divers, you should not leave your diving partner whatever happens.”

Police are ruling out “foul-play.” According to a medical report, the victim’s cause of death is “drowning,” Buenafe added.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Commission on Sports Scuba Diving (PCSSD) will conduct its own investigation into the incident
A PCSSD member noted, “Vives should have not left his girlfriend at the deep or Cruz should have resurfaced with her boyfriend when he signaled he was having trouble.”

Buenafe said divers choose Koala Dive Site because it’s the safest diving site in Batangas.

Yes Koala is in between Eagle Point and Mayumi/Sea Spring resorts.
The were diving near the area based on the time the accident were reported, the weather is good at that time.

Where is Koala dive site exactly. Is it anywhere near the sea springs resort.

Koala is closer to eagle point than sea springs. It's between Eagle point and Arthurs. Sea spring is several resorts/dive sites away ( arthurs, dead palm, balai, pani's, twin rocks, mainit kanto, etc)
