Diver killed on Riffgat offshore farm | ReNews - Renewable Energy News
A British diver has been killed in an accident on the Riffgat offshore wind farm in Germany.
Project owner EWE reported the incident happened during work on the “attachment of submarine cables” during the night of Friday 12 July and Saturday 13 July.
EWE said: “According to initial findings the 26-year-old has come under a concrete mat.”
The developers said the immediate rescue efforts on the diving support vessel located on site “were unsuccessful”.
“Faced with this painful loss we are all deeply saddened,” said project manager Wilfried Hube. “The thoughts of the entire Riffgat team are with the relatives of the victim and his fellow divers.”
EWE said the police and relevant authorities had been informed and further information clarifying the cause of the accident would be available in the next few days.
EWE owns 90% of the facility and Enova Energy Systems 10%.
