"Try"

RIP hope his insurance pays well for his family's sake.

I assume this means he took it out and dove with it? Is this the new "recreational" rebreather that doesn't allow you to control PPO2 and autoflushes?

Not much info on the model of rebreather he used but I would bet it's the new one.

Apparently I'm the only one up at this hour...

Translation for the lazy
"USTICA (PALERMO) - A diving instructor, Michael Talluto, 45, owner of a diving, died this morning in Ustica during a dive in the waters of the island, perhaps for a malore.La body will arrive at 20 in Palermo and will be transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine of the General Hospital for autopsy.
Talluto was the owner of Scubaland diving center, an activity that has its headquarters in the island on a dock Barresi, and that offers its clients guided dives on the seabed since April 1993, when he founded the center Talluto."

On a less sad and more annoying note google translate is not available in a non-mobile version besides the stupid quick reply thing (on iPhone) :(

Another thread about it here. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/accidents-incidents/488526-rebreather-death-italy.html
Says it was a MK6.

Confusing because the article says it was the instructor, Michael Talluto, while a post on RBW references a different article http://genova.ogginotizie.it/302013-liguria-sub-morta-a-portofino-e-beatrice-brogi-di-siena/#.U9gfa_ldWSo that identifies the deceased as Beatrice Brogi.

I suspect these are different incidents.

Yes they are different incidents.

The one involving Beatrice is discussed here: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/accidents-incidents/484050-portofino-rebreather-fatality.html and was in Portofino.

The one involving Michele being discussed in this thread here is a more recent fatality and it is said the course instructor was Vittorio Bianchini.

Picture of the deceased the day of the course, with rebreather, instructor, and rebreather manufacturer/representative:

According to this article:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_fDU5AURg1pU01WNldqQWp0T28/edit?pli=1

the investigating Magistrate Renza Cescon of the Procura di Palermo has opened a case for manslaughter.

It also says that the deceased was "testing" a rebreather (together with a few journalistic misconceptions about rebreathers...) and there were two divers with him.
