Man dies at Asan beach: Marketing director's identity confirmed by MID PAC | Pacific Daily News | guampdn.com
The marketing director of a regional wholesale distribution company died yesterday in a water-related incident near Asan Beach Park.
James Castro was marketing director for Mid Pacific Distributors Inc., a subsidiary of Calvo Enterprises Inc. that does wholesale distribution of beverage products. Castro also was marketing director of Tropical Productions, a MID PAC subsidiary that organizes live entertainment events.
E.J. Calvo, general manager of MID PAC, confirmed the man's identity to Pacific Daily News over the phone yesterday.
Guam Fire Department units responded yesterday morning to the Asan Beach Park area after receiving a call about a distressed swimmer, according to GFD spokesman Lt. Ed Artero.
Calvo said Castro had recently gotten certified for scuba diving, and Calvo was told he had gone diving with a group yesterday morning.
[h=3]No confirmed details[/h] As of press time, the Pacific Daily News had yet to confirm the details about what happened.
In an alert sent to the media around 9:40 a.m., GFD spokesman Lt. Ed Artero said the man was "unconscious and unresponsive" when units arrived on scene and that CPR was performed.
The man was taken to Naval Hospital Guam where he was pronounced dead, according to Guam Memorial Hospital Nursing Supervisor Jo Eustaquio. His body was later taken to GMH.
