Hi, I'm new to the board; am hoping to benefit from the experience of divers who have gone before me; will reciprocate where possible.
I'm heading to SA in April 2009. Our diving is going to be concentrated in St Lucia Greater Wetlands. Anyone know anything about it? Is it good? Lots of life, sharks?
I'm considering sticking around for a few extra days; thinking of diving Aliwal Shoal and Protea, or maybe Mozambique; seems a shame to be so close and not do them; would appreciate any input from those who've been there before.
Any insight on weather and dive conditions in April would also be helpful.
These are the fish you should find
Great White Sharks
Hammerheads
Zambesi sharks
Tiger sharks
Mantas
Turtles
Rays
Pelagic fish
Tropical fish
Eels
The weather is reasonable temps. should be between 28 and 30 you should not have rain
If you are in the St Lucia area perhaps consider going to Sodwana Bay. I don't know of any dive ops in the St Lucia, it is better known for deep sea fishing.
Where are you booked to stay ?
If you want to go to Moz maybe try Ponta Molangane - you can drive up to the border and be collected by the resort.

Year round diving on some the most spectacular reefs in the world with many varieties of rare and beautiful fish and sea life
This thread is so helpful! We are going to South Africa for the first time in September, which according to some is the best time to go cage diving with the Great White, since it is when they are feeding? We will be in two locals: Aliwal Shoal and Gansbaai (Dyer Island). Thanks for all the great information!
