Diving out of St. John's

Ex-pat coming home for a much needed vacation.

I'm looking to do as much diving as possible while home. Looking at a charter with Ocean Quest but I was hoping to do some shore dives as well. Anyone know of some good spots within a couple of hours of Town? Hoping to find someone willing to buddy up with for some diving as well.

I was also wondering about scallops. Specifically the regs, seasons, etc. I'm not looking to scoop anyones secret spot here, perhaps just a little nudge in the right direction.

I know there are some decent shore dives in Baline and also next to the Bell Island ferry terminal. I did some diving with the Dive Center the last time I was home. They were great. Nice people and things were loosely organized so you just pick up your tanks, meet the group at a Tim Horton's and you're on your way.
