Wrinkles July '05 Dive planning thread - Catalina Island

I'll update this first post as a running synopsis of this thread.

When: Saturday, July 9th
Where: Avalon Underwater Dive Park at Casino Point, Catalina Island


What is the Wrinkles Dive?

This is a monthly gathering of all divers and non-divers in SoCal who can make it. It's a lot of fun involving diving, eating, socializing and sometimes even camping!

It all started when our SoCal member, Wrinkles, mentioned to a group that she dove with that it would be really fun to be able to get together at least once a month. Pasley, took off with the idea and announced the first "Wrinkles Dive". The rest is history!

It's open to everyone of all skill levels from "I'm not certified yet" to "Do we really have to dive the Andrea Doria again?"

We've found this to be a great way to meet our fellow divers locally and many new dive buddies have been found though these "dive soirees".

2005 Wrinkles Schedule:

Wrinkles dives will take place every 2nd Saturday of the month and we will occasionally have both a Saturday and Sunday included for an entire weekend of fun.

Note: Based on future demand, these dives may be extended further north by adding Santa Barbara County to the rotation for the 2006 calendar year.

I'm already booked on the 6:15am Since the Gold Star dive is the same day, I highly suggest reserving your boat seats NOW. Also, it might be wise to bring your own tank that day...

Last year, those that brought their own tanks had to wait longer to get fills than those who just swapped out rentals. That being said, a combination may not be a bad idea... you could get one dive in on your own tank before the rental trailer opens, rent a tank when you take yours in for a fill (in case they are taking long) and just keep swapping back and forth... It is really too bad you can't take two tanks over on the ferry (but I see why they need to limit it).

Most of them left right after the dive last year. It was pretty crowded up 'til then, but was nice after that.

Looks like their dive is at 10:30, which means the Catalina Express going over will be crowded, and the park and filling station will be crowded at least until noon.

Plus it's the weekend following July 4th (previous Monday), so I'm guessing the place will be packed.

Bummer....another Wrinkle's Dive I'll miss. Out of town for this one! :17:

I'll be on a mini-vacation doing above-water hobbies in Colorado!

The Gold Star shouldn't be a problem since it's on Saturday, and we're going to be there on Sunday. We'll miss the crowds, and it will be wonderful.
