Anybody dive Mermet Springs in Illinois? I thought about visiting the quarry this summer since it only 45 minutes from my fiance's house and was wondering if anyone had experiece with the place.

I was there last year. It is a nice place. Heated showers, gear rentals, concessions. Casino near by for night time fun. The sunken attractions are pretty neat (I mean how often do you get to dive on a 727 from a movie?) I plain to go back sometime this summer.

Good luck.

It is very nice and worth the trip. you can even dive though a plane..

Mermet is a great facility. Service is top notch. The best amenity has got to be the 727. There is nothing like doing a nigh dive there and all of the sudden having the cockpit or widebody come into view. The platforms are also a training plus. Sometime in the later summer DUI has a demo day there for like $5.

I've done certification dives there twice, and it's great. Well run, nice staff, and good stuff to see.

I dive regularly at mermet springs and I love it. The staff is professional and very helpful. The equipment they provide is well maintained and affordable if you need to rent. The underwater attractions are fun, and there are many fish to join you on your dive, most notably the spoonbills. Also, regular training classes are offered there, and the instruction is top notch. If you havent been to the web site check it out at www.mermetsprings.com. The visibility has been great. Happy Diving!

I love diving Mermet, but a small correction to the above post: the shower ROOMS are heated--the shower WATER is not. Still nice on winter dives to be able to get dressed in a heated room.

Definitely make a trip there. The viz was 15+ feet this weekend, better in the deep water.

One further correction...the shower rooms are heated during the day...we did some night diving Saturday night, and when we went in there to change, the heat was turned off, and this was about 6:15 PM.

Love Mermet. Did my century dive there yesterday. :D Also turned on the heat in the shower room since it was first thing in the morning.

I really can't add to much to the above replies, other then to give my recommendation. I think the place is great. Diving just doesn't get any easier. I need to get back there sometime and shoot a few rolls of film on the attractions. I really loved the dive platform with the telephone booth and the garden knomes. Totally bizarre. Make the trip. You won't be disappointed.
