For those traveling within/to/from the USA, have you had success with the newish TSA locks? Is the TSA cutting them anyways, or have you had success with them?

BigJetDriver July 5th, 2005, 10:38 PM For those traveling within/to/from the USA, have you had success with the newish TSA locks? Is the TSA cutting them anyways, or have you had success with them? Mer, People are reporting that they work well. TCB July 5th, 2005, 10:45 PM I've used them several times with no problems. I have the ones with a 3 number combination. I was curious the first time, so I moved away and watched the guy open the lock, search the bag, and relock it. The process went just as its supposed to. TruckDiver July 5th, 2005, 10:45 PM We've used them for quite awhile now, haven't had any problems. M_Bipartitus July 5th, 2005, 10:45 PM I have used the locks for a few trips between ABQ (Albuquerque) and DTW (Detroit) and I have had the locks unlocked by security for inspection and no locks cut. Queen July 5th, 2005, 10:45 PM I've had good luck with the new locks. mike_s July 5th, 2005, 11:04 PM For those traveling within/to/from the USA, have you had success with the newish TSA locks? Is the TSA cutting them anyways, or have you had success with them? See this thread about success with them and theft without them. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=103357 mer July 6th, 2005, 07:31 AM See this thread about success with them and theft without them. http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=103357 Yup, that's what prompted me to ask, I didn't want to make the other thread go off topic of MIA, but it did anyways. DiveMaven July 6th, 2005, 09:11 AM We've used them for a couple of years and have found a note in our bags just once from TSA with our locks locked on the outside of the bag. We like them and feel that they deter the casual thief. DYOUNGER July 6th, 2005, 10:36 AM The only problems we have encountered is that on one occasion the TSA did not lock the locks after inspection. They were just dangling open when we picked up our baggage Aeolus July 6th, 2005, 03:52 PM I have used them several times and had no real problems as yet. The only thing is that when returning from another country: Belize, Cayman, Mexico and Honduras so far, it does not really help much as they want to open them in front of you or call you back to observe the inspection anyway. I do like the idea of having the bags "secure" while in transit, mostly for a little added protection from the airline baggage handlers. mike_s July 6th, 2005, 10:38 PM Yup, that's what prompted me to ask, I didn't want to make the other thread go off topic of MIA, but it did anyways. Well, I didn't buy an extra set of locks because I didn't think we'd be checking 3 bags and didn't want to spend the extra $$$ on them. Hindsight is always different, but of course now I will spend the money on them and will be getting an extra set or two of these locks. I think that I'm also going to use small zip ties just to deter theft in the small outside pockets and also to alert me imediately that the bags have been opened. (I'll carry the spare zip ties for the return trip in my camera bag in carry-on-luggage or something). CA Diver July 8th, 2005, 11:32 PM I have used my pair several times. The only problem is that either the TSA forgot to reattach one once or I lost it in the hotel room. I did not realize it was gone until I was packing for the return flight. The other 6 or 8 flights they worked great.
