Hello AZ Scuba!

Planning a long weekend in Vegas next April(bachelor party--not mine). I was wondering if it would be worth it to lug my gear out there for a few dives. Interested in sites close to Vegas, conditions, water temps, stuff to see, etc. I am used to diving in cold, low viz conditions in New England. Thanks.

Most of the local diving from Vegas is done at Lake Mead, it's only about 25 miles away. If you're a fan of big man-made wonders, Hoover Dam is worth a quick stop also - it's just a couple miles away.

What's at Mead:

PM Dive-aholic here, he was just there this spring.

There is a dolphin tank at one of the hotels that I wish I could dive in....

Doc Intrepid:
I've heard there's a pirate ship that sinks rather regularly there - you could get in a few (quick) wreck dives I suppose!
Not sure if they still do since there's a new show there now - Sirens of TI:

(I volunteer to be the CPR trainer for the Sirens!!!!)

Maybe you could squeeze in a quick dive between the 8:30 & 10 o'clock shows? :)

I heard somewhere that one of the diveops in Vegas dives with the Dolphins at the Mirage - but it's not open to the public at the casino. Also go see Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay.

I was thinking of diving in the Bellagio fountain. I mean, its like 3 - 6 feet deep, so I'd get mad BT in the waterheater. Then cruise over to the Venetian and terrorize the propeller-driven Gondolas.

Finish up with a dip at the new lake at Wynns Las Vegas. I could probably do all that on one tank.

That's what I figured... :frown:

I've been to Shark Reef at the Mandalay. That would be an awesome dive, too.

Probably nobody in the pool at the Hardrock either, I don't think they open until May 1st. And it's got a sandy bottom so it would remind you of the ocean...

Wouldn't it!!! Last time I was there they had a small Hammerhead there. One of the staff told me the main tank is 26' deep so you'd have insane BT.

I've actually seen a guy diving in the Bellagio fountain. He was working on
the lights and water jets. He had on dive gear but only so he could stay under
for a few minutes at a time. his "support team" was another guy in a "john boat".
