Here is the records page. there are many different catagories like you said. I am not sure what the difference in each is but I was just simply wondering how deep has someone went on just one breath of air. I guess the answer is 171 m set by a guy in France. That incredible that equals 561 feet. Does the guy only use weights go get down and just swims back up using fins?

In the no-limits category, the diver rides a weighted sled to depth and ascends using an inflated lift bag. They get down quickly and come up rather quickly. The constant weight is seen as a more pure physical form of freediving. What impresses me are the statics, take a moment and watch the video on Tom Sietas' static record. Man, that's impressive! I have had the opportunity to dive with Tanya Streeter and she is a phenom as well.

I just watched "The Big Blue" if you're curious about what those sleds look like.

Patrick Musimu claims to have broken Loïc Leferme’s no limits record (171m) with a 209.6m dive on June 30th, 2005.

If and when you get a chance - watch Imax/Omnimax film, Ocean Men. You'll see Umberto Pelizzari against Pepin Ferreras, awesome, breathtaking film.
