I've just recently decided to take up underwater photography (which was how I stumbled onto this site btw), and I would like to know if anyone has any tips/hints for a newbie, like suggestions on camera/equipment/etc...

Hello there and welcome to the board.
Here you will find all the answers you want. Your request is a daily post and as for the first request is a bit to generic. So If you go looking around in some previous post you will find some good starting point. Then when you have a more precise idea of what you are looking for post again to have further opinion on special camera.
