Hello all, First time poster here. I have been lurking for a while and soaking up all the info from your site. Thanks

My question is my girlfriend and i are going to Key Largo at the end of October and I was looking for a good but cheap hotel and dive charter. I found Paradise Charters on the net but I don't know anything about them. This will be my GF's first dive down there since she is a new diver so i'm not looking for anything deep or technical. We just want to see some neat stuff.

Any help you all can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Silent World has a special for five trips for $199.95. They are a very good little company. I spent a whole week with them and they were nothing but great. I also found a very affordable rental for the week on VRBO.com.

The place we stayed was certainly not a palace, but it was a place to stay and it was cheap.

I'm doing the Keys in Feb and we are staying at the Hungry Pelican in Key Largo and diving with Silent World, doing their 5 boat dive package for $199. I was told by multiple people here on the board and elsewhere they are good, safe operations. Also check Blue Water Divers, I've heard multiple times on this board that they are good also.
Enjoy,
Chris

I always tell people about Amy's. It's the best for the price. You can stay there and dive with them at the same time. http://www.amoray.com/

My favorite is the Bay Harbor Lodge on Key Largo. The rooms are clean, some have little kitchens, the beds are comfy and there's a great hammock on the bay side, overlooking the water, where you can snooze.

If they're full, the Seafarer Dive Resort is next door. It was inexpensive (by Key Largo standards) The room was "rustic" in the sending your kids away to camp sense of the word, but it was more or less clean, quiet, all the plumbing worked and the bed was comfortable.

The room also had a refrigerator, which was nice, since it meant I could stop by the store and pick up breakfast and lunch stuff, instead of eating out 3 meals a day.

There are a bunch of dive ops in the area, and they're all pretty good.

If you want some low-stress dives, the boat that operates out of John Pennekamp park is well run, and seem to go to shallow, low-current sites.

I had a great package earlier this year from Rainbow Reef. Boat and crews were top notch. Rates were good, everything was right on time, as promised, as planned, etc.

One thing you should decide is if you want to dive from a cattle boat, or from a 6 pack.

KEY LARGO
I recommend Bluewater Divers their boat hold 10 divers. The Holiday Inn next to their boat is a nice place to stay. I believe they may have special rates for some dive Ops. Just mention their name when making your reservation. I can tell you it cost more for rooms in Key Largo then many other Keys.

MARATHON
I recommend driving to Tildens Dive Center in Marathon one day. You want to take their smaller Marathon boat to Delta Shoals and Sombrero Reef. These are easy and beautiful dive sites. The depth is no more then 35 feet. They also dive a small barge wreck that is easy.

If you want to stay one night in Marathon the best deal I found is Key Colony Bay Resort. I booked the room on Orbitz.com for $60.00 before.

I found a "dive & stay" package with Abyss divers in Marathon. They have a special where you stay at the Holiday Inn and dive with them for only less than $100/night per person. After talking to some board members here, and being told they are a good operation and not a cattle boat, I've booked a few days with them in Feb.
