Hello All!

In light of my Dive History, I’d like to give a friendly but firm reminder to all Travelers: always check the Centers for Disease Control, and U.S. State Dept. websites for your Travel Destination: (http://www.cdc.gov/travel/ ; http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis_pa_tw_1168.html )
If need be, pack a portable anti-mosquito net, take your anti-malarial pills, and be timely in applying your DEET lotion. Don’t end up like I did: spending a week in a Palau Hospital with acute Dengue Fever . . .or almost being abducted by an Al Qaeda Terrorist Cell. :shakehead

Here’s to Sharing Better & More Wonderful Dive Experiences! :schijnend

Welcome.

What can I say, on the one hand, you will certainly have some great stories to tell, but I think I owuld rather hear you tell it than to live it.

Welcome to the board and don't forget to visit the SoCal subforum.

Hi Kevin, sorry to hear you had some bad times on a dive trip in paradise, kind of ironic and sad. Welcome to the board though.

Welcome to the board Kevin.

I always check for the CDC recommendations. However, something for people to know is that many of the larger medical groups have a section dedicated to foreign travel. When I go to mine, they have the latest CDC info, keep records of my last injections, etc. and have printouts for the areas I'm travelling to.

I would now also consider taking a Satellite Phone as well:
http://www.cellhire.com/services/iridium/iridium_cc.htm
It's very expensive to rent however, and coverage may be spotty, but knowing you've got a potentially quick link to DAN or even the US State Dept. ("I'm in trouble, get me outta here --send in the Marines!"), that Phone may be worth its weight in gold. . .
