I have a Seaquest BC. Can I use a moulded lead weight in this device or does the pouches with the pellets must be used? Thanks, Ronnie

Hard weights can be used.

I have used both types of weights in the pockets.

My husband dives with a ProQD+ and was told by our LDS that if we were going to buy our own weights that soft weights would be preferred. However, the hard weights are just fine as long as you know they will potentially cause more wear to the pockets. Since we dive warm only and travel to all our dive destinations, we don't own our own weights and use whatever the dive op is providing.

Comfort depends on the pockets. I thought soft would be better, found I can't tell the difference. My weight pockets are very stiff, so you really can't feel the weights trhough them. So long as the amount of weight you need fits inside the pockets they work fine.

Likewise, can't feel the weights in my DivaLX. Also, I wear 7 lbs in each pocket, and 7lbs of soft weight will juuuusssstt barely fit (less dense), making it a pain to insert the pockets. I threw away (well, demoted) my soft weights and got hard weights instead for my local diving. Also, when the pockets were full to bursting with soft weights, the plastic buckles are harder to make seat properly - lost one a few months ago.

My $0.02.

If you're concerned about the wear, just get an old pair of socks and insert the weights, cut off the overhang and voila, you've got padding.
