Has anyone every been diving in Puerto Vallarta? Is it worth it? I'm going with a non-diver, but want to get some dives in if I can. Any advice you have would be appreciated! :10:

Thanks!!

It's OK... We went with Chico's Dive shop... There's a manta dive, that is like a 45 minute boat ride - the site is called "marietas"

According to my logs.. the water temp in Jan was 75F. Viz was about 20'

For the most part... the dive sites weren't that great in PV... but our DM was excellent, made the most of what it was....

In my notes in my logbook i wrote

"Decent dive site, but not very colorful. Cool formations, and some interesting fish, but not a lot. I wouldn't recommend diving in P.V. unless you're here, and want to dive."

So if you're there... check it out, but if you're going there to dive... there are better destinations.

I agree with Howard. I was there about 11 years ago and what I remember is about the same. I wouldn't make a special trip to go diving there again but hey, if you're there anyways, any dive is a good dive. Make the best and have fun!!

As already mentioned, PV is not a place I would "plan" a trip to but the diving is decent. I dove with Chico's and Vallarta Adventures. Both were good, but very different. Chico's was strickly a dive outfit and Vallarta Adventures was diving along with a cruise and lunch at their own private beach.

OK, I think I'll give PV a miss then. Is there another location on the west coast of Mexico that is well worth the trip?

I used to live there. The diving can get pretty good, it is not Cozumel but I am sure that you will have a great time. You should go to Marietas Island. If you want contact me and I will help you there.

I live in PV for about 9 months a year. There are a lot of great dive sites, while it is not Cozumel there are lots of BIG Mantas, Humpbacks, dolphins and more, especially at certain times of the year. The people are great and there are many land based activities as well. You might want to give it a try.

Go there, you are gonna have a good time. It is not the best place in the world, but the diving can get pretty good, specially in the Marietas Island. If you decide to go let me know, I know many people there.

How was Regina? Did Cabo last year..Good diving but the currents sucked. Had to hand over hand it out around the point on one of them. Where are you staying in Cabo?

Club Regina, and we didn't dive some sights due to strong current.

Well If You Read My Other Posting I Talk About Pacific Scub I Would Not Recomend It To Any One Sorry. We All Have Are Own Opinion I Am An Avid Diver And Look For A Leval Of Service And Stander Not Found In Pacific Scuba If You Are A Vacation Diver Then That Explaines Your Posting.

Hey Gandi that was pretty rude..You say pretty rude things in all your post that ppl don't have the same opinion as you. Also in another post you say that you have never used Ocean Quest.

We are planning a trip to PV for December 17 - 25 so we get to spend Christmas!! I am still researching dive shops. I have to figure out which are close to where we are going to be staying. We are really excited!! Last year we went to Cabo for Christmas...now PV this year. Next year, we will have run out of spots in Mexico so might go to Belize or one of those places. Airfare from podunk Idaho is expensive so we will be planning early!

Would love to talk to anyone that will be there during this same time period!!

Angel hugs!

Susie

I wide recommend to Dive Chimo or Morro, Marietas is good but if you want the best on my personnal point of view Chimo are my favorite. Morro and Corbetena are perfect. You can try Vallarta Undersea or Pacific Scuba, speccial for divers, no crowds, separate groups, great crew and wide knoledge of local dive sites. Contact me if you need furter information.
Trust me Puerto Vallarta worth the trip. On this season the water temp is 85 degrees and viz is around 80 ft.

Vallarta Undersea 3 days package for only $240 for open water divers or $270 for advanced or experience divers who want to dive the best.
5 days or night dives are available also.

My wife and I will be in PV from Nov. 7th - Nov 17th and although this is not a dive vacation, I hope to get at least a few dives in with my wife. Never been to PV so am really looking forward to it. Will provide some feedback from a relative new once I am back.

Taurkon, I'll be PV in Nov as well. I sent you a PM if you want to hook up. My wife doesn't dive, so I'd be interested in diving with you instead of an insta-buddy.

Taurkon and Jang I'll glad to dive with you in the best place of Puerto Vallarta if you want to. I can get you to Chimo where you can find mantas and big creatures, or dive El morro where you can dive throug a big cave (tunnel) at 90 ft deep crossing to the other side of the rock and going out at 60 ft to keep diving around the reef. You can book on www.vallartaundersea.com (http://www.vallartaundersea.com) cheers.
here some picks of the places I mentioned above.
