My wife and I have our 5th anniversary coming up. We want to go to either West palm or the keys. My wife is leary about going deeper then 20' but i think if she ever actualy gets around a reef and tropical fish shes not even going to notice how deep she is. Im wondering if anyone knows a good location that may have a reef that will start out at 20' but will slope down to 40' feet or so just to give her a taste of going a little deeper without thinking about it. Any ideas?

Key Largo...lots of shallow diving (30+/-). And my second choice would be Ft. Lauderdale over Palm Beach for diving, but the diving tends to be a little deeper (reefs around 40-45').

I've repeatedly used "Ocean Quest" at mm 88.5 - 1-800-356-8798 ask for "The Dive Goddess" and tell her you'd like to visit the Aquarium. Very nice double reef, with lots of life. They use several other shallow dive spots.

ps - I have no financial interest in this operation, they are very good, very professional, and can use the business following all the hurricanes. True for any Keys operator

My wife just completed her certification and we will be heading for Marathon in the Keys for her first ocean dives. We have been there in the past (she snorkeled with her son and I dove) and it is easy diving. Both Sombrero Reef and Coffins Patch are in the 20-40 foot range, with a wide variety of things to see - not to mention some shallow wrecks.

I did my first ocean dives in this area and at Looe Key - all easy dives and lots of fun.

I have not been diving in Key Largo - but the snorkeling was great - so I would expect the diving to be good also.

For diving near Key West contact Rachel at Wreckreation Charters [(305) 515-2750 or rachel@wreckreationcharters.com]. She can take you to Looe Key or other locations in the area that might meet your needs. A very customer-friendly operation.

My wife and I have decided we want to go to the keys for our 5th ann. We just got certifed a few weeks ago. Does anyone have any good experiences with locations in the keys to stay. We'r looking to stay for about a week and were thinking of like a condo or villa. Somthing close to good dive locations. My wife is comfortable with about 20' to 30' of depth but shes never been to a reef before and i think if she starts seeing the fish and all the coral shes not even going to notice the depth so even reefs 40' to 50' would be ok. If anyone has good ideas of locations to stay and certian reefs that are good for newbies Please let me know. Also if the location to stay is in kinda of a romatic setting with other stuff to do like bike riding and stuff that would be great. Its got to be a good trip we both need one bad. Thankyou for any info anyone has. p.s. Links to web pages would help for any ideas .

Amoray Resort in Key Largo. I went there recently. People there are so nice, they will take you out to the beautiful reefs. Usually where they took me to, the depth is about 30 to 45 feet. Very shallow but very nice dive especially those Spotted Eagle rays! Here is the link: http://www.amoray.com/ Good luck searching.

I've only stayed in "budget diver" rooms, but you might want to call "the dive goddess" at Ocean Quest in Islamorada. She has been there a long time, and knows the locale. Also runs a GREAT dive operation.
