RED TIDE CURRENT STATUS REPORT (October 14)

Present Status: A Florida red tide continues in northwest Florida. Distribution of Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, remains patchy in bay areas from Escambia County to Wakulla County. Up to high concentrations of K. brevis were found in St. Andrew Bay (Bay County), and up to medium concentrations were found in Choctawhatchee Bay (Okaloosa County) and St. Andrew Sound (Franklin County). Above-backgrounds concentrations of K. brevis were also found this week south of Cedar Key in Levy County. Fish kills were reported from Okaloosa, Walton, Bay, Franklin, and Taylor counties. Commercial shellfish harvesting continues to be affected. Check with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Aquaculture for the most up-to-date information regarding shellfish area closures.

Pensacola areas and beaches off the AL coast are reporting reduced numbers and no symptoms of redtide nearshore this past weekend.
