I'm a relatively new open water diver from Michigan and will be heading down to Fort Lauderdale to visit a couple friends who are also divers. Unfortunately they are new to the area and don't have a good feel for the best dive operations and locations. We'd like to find someplace that we can take an Advanced Open Water class and perhaps do some good recreational diving outside the class. Can anyone recommend a good place to get AOW in the Ft. Lauderdale area? I'd like to find someplace that will take the time to really teach us something as opposed to places that will fly through the material and the dives so that you can get your new c-card.

I'd also be very interested in knowing which local dive sites people would recommend for new divers with very little experience.

Thanks,
Jason

Where abouts in ft. lauderdale are you going to be? There are many good dive shops in the area and you might be able to find one close to where you are staying instead of driving around town, driving down here is no fun at all. There are some good diving spots here in ft. lauderdale, but nothing compared to the keys. If you have a chance make sure you spend a few days diving in the keys the water and visibility are much better than lauderdale.

this web site has some good info - http://www.dixiedivers.com/points-EUA.htm

if you are going to get you AOW while you are here you NEED to get to key largo/islamorada area and dive either the Duane/Bibb or the Eagle. There are rated in the top five wrecks in the world.

I did my AOW class with Diver's cove. They did an exceptional job at a great price. I highly recommend them.

I'm actually going to be northwest of Fort Lauderdale in Coral Springs. I've been to the Dixie Divers site before and am thinking of doing AOW through them. My biggest problem is that there are so many options for dive locations. The keys sound great... I'll definitely try to get down there. Thanks for the input.
