Scuba death in Saipan

A very sad incident here in Saipan a brief description can be found July 10 edition of Saipan tribune http://www.tribune.co.mp.
Saturday July 6, one day after typhoon Chataan passed a group of divers, including five instructors decided to go on a dive at our Grotto site (a very beautifull dive). One of the tourists never made it back into the Grotto, the fiver instructors changed tanks and set out to try to find him only three made it back at which point the police were contacted. The helicopter found the two instructors (they ran out of air), the tourist was found with his BC inflated and 900psi of air in the tank. He was 34 years old, it is still not known what exactly happened. One of our long time resident divers probably had the best explanation, respect nature, five dive instructors will not make post typhoon conditions safe.

what would be some things to consider post-typhoon? (i dont live anywhere near such things so i'm just curious)

According to the local news report the dive group was with All American Divers.
The post typhoon conditions include extremely strong currents, high surf and decreased visibility.
We had a dozen dives with this outfit they were very professional and always emphasized safety. Unfortunately a large groups of divers (in this case I believe there were 16) means a large amount of money and the pressure to salvage what is left of a vacation can be enormous.

makes me wonder - I'm due to dive tomorror and it will be around 48 hours since Chataan hit us. It is already spring tides as well but the winds were only about half the strength you guys had.

Will see what the fisherman (boat captain) says tomorrow.
