Apeks Service in Central FLA

Do any of you Conch Divers out there know of a shop that really is certified on Apeks Regs for service in the Orlando Area? Every one that I contact says they are but when i ask to see their certification, they "can't find it", even though they have every one of their other certs on the wall in the service area.

The reason this bothers me is that I have tried a few of these shops, and they always seem to return them to me tuned to high. The octo and the reg then either trickle leak on me through the whole dive or they feel like they are forcing air down my throat. I usually have to take them back a couple of times after intial servie to get them to tune them down enough to work right. I just think this is because they are not used to high Performance regs like Apeks. These things are fully adjustable and they always seem to adjust them so that even if I turn the adjust ment and the surface lever to the lowest settings, they still flow too much.

Any help would be apreciated in finding a real Apeks Shop in the Central Florida Area.

I bet there's some gifted repair tech in cave country who does these things in his/hers sleep; but if worse comes to worse, you can always send it to Joel at Tech Dive Limited. Somewhere, someone will make it right for you.

No I haven't. I live in Lake Mary, but I might have to go that far to get it right. I am familiar with them. They have a good rep.

Tom, thanks, if i have to ship them somewhere that would be a good choice but I would prefer to take it local if possible.

For the record, I get to Deltona on a fairly regular basis. Its a shame both of your options so far involve negotiating the I-4 through Orlando or using a Sun Pass. Of the LDS's around Orlando that I've been too, that's the only place I'd let work on my Apeks regs. Good luck!

Local is good - and LJ - there is always the option of tuning and/or servicing your own regulator. Although you're on the same latitude as Cape Canaveral, it ain't rocket science and you'll be ok as long as you don't use any parts made by Morton Thiokol.
Vance Harlow's book is a good place to start and "SCUBA REGULATOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR" will help you understand your gear better. Barry at Salvo has Apeks service kits and Peter Built has whatever esoteric tools you might need.

Also, this website has a nice equipment section with excellent information for DIY Apeks rebuilds, etc. including part numbers and a couple of slideshows that walk you through the process. Someday I'm going to learn to do this myself, but I'm holding out until I can get someone to walk me through the process a few times.
