Hi,
Planning a wreck dive trip to A-Bay and Kingston for August 24/25. Will I need a full 7mm 2-piece wetsuit or something thinner - like say, 3mm?

We are diving to around 45-55 ft or so.

Thermocline?

Will we need out gloves, hoods, etc. then?

Just got back from diving in Brockville (up the river from Kingston). The temp was in the low 70's and we wore 3mm with hoods and reef gloves.

At that time of year 3mm should be good - but I always go with a hood and reef gloves.

Hope this helps.

Yup,
Thanks...so my 7mm would be 'overkill' - huh?

Barb,
Well isn't Kington's waters about the same as the A-Bay?

?

The water in the river is moving and turning all the time which results in warmer water and no thermoclines 65-70 degrees right to the bottom.
In the Lake "Kingston" the water moves slower and does not turn and at 60 feet today it was a balmy 49' You'll need a full 7mm with hood & gloves.
Try this: If someone is diving deep in the lake and you are swimming on the surface in the warm water, go to the bubbles that are coming up, and the water will be 15 to 20 degrees colder with the upwelling the bubbles cause bringing the cold water to the surface.

Dove in Kingston this weekend with Northern Tech.

Water temp at 80feet was low 50's. Thermocline was ~60feet. Above that temps were mid 60's.

7 mill two peace, hood, gloves, boots.. and I was in dry suit envy land.

Dove: Marsh, Comet, Cornwall, Queen Mary and Jamesson.

The Marsh is an absolute MUST see. Just don't touch anything please. Just about strangled some retard who picked up the 100 year old tea pot, then droped it.

We need more divers like you :)
You should have strangled them:whack:
If they were on your boat gently let them know that this is not how we treat artifacts.
If they were on someone else's boat {not mine I hope} let the Captain know so he can let the other Captain have a word with the diver. This is the only way to protect our wrecks so that your grandchildren can dive on a really cool wreck too.
Was Walter your Captain? He's a good guy.

Yep, Walter was my Captain.

Very cool guy. Now that you mention it, I should have mentioned it when I surfaced. I beleve they were divers from the other boat, but I did not get a good ID, since they turned and silted the place out right after droping the pot.
