Hey all,
I just returned from a 4 day trip to Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula. We had a great time. The Keweenaw Peninsula is home to one of Michigan's many "Underwater Preserves".
If anyone is interested in a lot of novice/intermediate level dives accessible from shore, Copper Harbor is a must. (Anyone have a boat they would like to donate? )
It's also a great place for agate hunting; (agate is a cool type of stone.)
Just stop in the dive shop in Copper Harbor and either Jake or Laura will give you a map of the Peninsula outlining 12 different shore dives (with directions) all within 30 minutes. PLUG: great people: very helpful and friendly.
There are two easy wrecks in less than 20 ft of water in Eagle Harbor. A cool "underwater navigating trail" in Copper Harbor - 30 ft. And plenty of other sites known for their rock formations, agates, copper and float copper.
Visibility was 25-30 ft. minimum. Water temp was a balmy 63 - 66.
On the way back we dove Presque Isle Cove in Marquette. Visibility 30 ft. Temp. was 49 - 53 degrees. If you get the chance it is definitely worth checking out.
Later,
Joe
