Hey all,

I've been reading a lot of posts so far, and I've determined the following characteristics I'd want to have in my new computer:

- Nitrox (1 blend is fine, 2 gases would be better, but probably *way* more expensive)
- Liberal with a user adjustable safety margin
- Ideally no lock out
- Gauge Mode
- Backlight
- Wrist Mounted with no Air Integration (too expensive)
- Big face (not watch like)
- Audible Alarms would be a plus
- User Replacable Battery
- Possibility to download the logged dives to a PC
- Relatively Cheap (under 500$)

I've looked at the Suuntos (too conservative), Cochrans do not have a gauge mode, Uwatecs don't have the user replaceable battery... The only brands lefts are Diverite and Oceanic (and Oceanic-like, such as the Atmos), but I don't know much about them...

Any suggestions? :icosm02:

Thanks a bunch! :)

Nitek Duo -- fits all your critera except lock out.

I have a dumb question, but why wouldn't you want a lock out feature?

Just passing along that the Duo has a long history of failure.

It is a great computer, one I'd love to use for recreational stuff, except for the thought of "when will it fail?" would be in the back of my mind on every dive.

There's this thread over on TDS. If you read this, months ago several posters defend the Duo ("mine hasn't had any problems!") and recently they post how theirs, too has died....

Perhaps the DiveRite Nitek Plus. Same algorithm and interface, just smaller.

All the best, James

Aeris or Oceanic sell good products. Wrist or console?

Have a look at the UWATEC Aladin Tec - meets all the above requirements except the "no lockout" criteria, great gauge mode, user replaceable battery; "remaining saturation" can be reset.

Put in in a Deep Sea Supply Elastomeric Mount for UWATEC Digital Bottom Timers and it becomes a very compact and comfortable dive computer.

The Oceanic Veo 180 meets your requirements, with the exception of "no lock out". The Veo 180 will eventually revert to gauge mode if you do one of the following three things:
1. Exceed the maximum operating depth (330 feet)
2. Require a decompression ceiling greater than 70 feet
3. Fail to complete a required decompression stop

You can find more information here: http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/p_computers_veo180.html

The same applies for the AERIS XR-2; meets your requirements and then some. Pricing is a bit higher, but the wrist unit falls within your maximum.

More information can be found here: http://www.diveaeris.com/p_computers_xr2.html

Feel free to contact me or post here if you have any questions.
