This is probably not what most if any diver gets into when it comes to dive computers, but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a programming api for reading files that a dive computer up-loads to one's personal computer.

Does one exist?
Does each computer have its own specifications? (I'm assuming yes here)
Where can I better research this and find out more info?
What languages are API's written for? (I like java, but any 'c' language is ok)

thanks! (if this post confuses you it's because you're not computer nerdy enough  )
