I am going to be in Ocean Springs from the 3/19 till 3/25 and wondering if there were any spots for a quick dive while I was there? most of the time I will be overseen a group of highschool/collage guys helping rebuild a church but I may have free time in the afternoon/evning.
I am driving down so I could bring my own gear.
What are the water temps? I want to bring only what I need.

Think boat. Shore diving in that neck of the woods is not good until you get out past ship island; which I am not even sure exists anymore. Too much slit from the Mississippi delta. Katrina tore up a lot of the infrastructure down there and I feel that the main push to rebuild has been the casinos. There used to be a Ship Island Ferry running out of Gulfport. I am no longer in the area on a full time basis, but this past weekend was pleasant with air temps in the 70's. Water temps might be cooler and possibly into the mid to low 60's. Depending on your felxibility with a car/church bus, you might want to head East toward Foley Al and the LDS just over the Mobile bay bridge. Mat, aka suprbugman, is a good source for Gulf shores/Orange beach diving. Plan on about a 1+ hour drive to Gulf Shores. Welcome to the sunny south and thanks for helping out.

Try to contact Club Caribbean in D'Iberville. I don't know if he is back on his feet by now or not.

Also do a search for rig diving Pascagoula on this forum. eanxgirl knows who does the charters.

All the guys from Gulf Shores are on here too. It is about two hours from OS to Gulf Shores and there are some nice diving there. It's also two hours to Scuba Shack in Pensacola http://www.scubashackpensacola.com/sdm.asp who have a big boat with a heated cabin.

Unless you go way out don't expect any good dives along the Miss Gulf Coast.
