Nitek 1 altitude E

I was at the dive shop last night and a employee came in saying his Nitek was messed that it had a E for error where the altitude would show. He called Dive Rite and basically got the answer tuff you need to buy a new one. I told him I would search around on the net since he is not too computer savy. Though after a few hours of searching I have not come up with a solution. Has any one else ever had this happen and was it fixable.
