A firend and myself are planning to take scuba lessons in June, but we are looking to practice our snorkeling skills. Other than practicing in a pool is there any good spot off of the coast of ventura, calif. Thank you in advance for your response.

The city beach in Carpenteria is OK and there are some kelp beds just north of there. Mostly just sandy beaches around Ventura with lots of surf. You can try to snorkel around the jetty in Oxnard but watch for boats. You might also try south to Malibu. Of course the Channel Islands are awesome for snorkeling.

Just scout for places with rock formation and kelp, get out past the surf and go for it!
