I will be in PV may 2-9 and I would really like to dive while I"m down there. I hear Pacific scuba is the best but they don't have a lot of info on their site. I hear it is cold down there and I was wondering if they provide wet suits or if I have to find my own. Also, I can't find thier e-mail address to send them a little note. Is the only way to get in touch with them over the phone? And do you think I could just go down there at the begining of my trip and reserve the day and dive I want. One more thing, if you could do only ONE dive, which would it be? Keep in mind i've only done 15 dives. Thanks

Hi snowqueen927, and welcome to ScubaBoard. I have only done one dive in PV (precertified) and wasn't that impressed. I have heard since from local divers there can be alot to see, like Mantas and big Eels. You may want to post this question in the -Mexico (http://www.scubaboard.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29) forum.

btw; I'll be there May 18-28

Welcome to the board. Twin Dolphins is the other best shop there, I use them all the time. The best trip for you would be out to the Marietas, which is about an hour boat ride but well worth it. I know the people at Pacific and they are all terrific as well. They will provide wetsuits for you, it's a little cold past the thermocline at the moment, about 70 degrees. The water is warming up now. Send them an email.

I've been to PV a bunch of times. I've gone with Villarta Adventures. It is a cattle boat, but a fun cattle boat. I'd go with them again. They provide wetsuits. However, I've been cold even with their suits. As a result, I bring my own hooded vest.

Hiya!
Saw your post and thought I would see if I can help. I was down in PV in March and dove with Pacific Scuba as well as Vallarta Adventures (<- one day so my non diving friends could get wasted and party on the boat, hehe)
I would reccomend PS.
They provide full wetsuits (5mm). ST in March was about 68, making it just chilly enough that you may want to ask for hood and gloves if your prone to becoming cold.

I have one of the instructors emails if you would like to get in touch with him
jscuba@hotmail.com (I believe) - Javier Acevedo

Other than that, have a good time! Oh reccomendations! If your comfortable in the water I'd reccomend Los Arcos (be sure to tell them you want to dive the wall, it's awesome!), or Marietas (lot's to see, and usually shallow):D

Hi,

I will be down in PV the first week of May as well...if you want, PM me and we can see if we can coordinate a dive.

I have gone out with OceanQuest and had a blast (did my AOW with them); I will most likely be diving at least one day with them and I know that I want to do a night dive at Los Arcos.

I am also traveling with some non-diver friends and my non-diver girlfriend who want to snorkel, so I am going to arrange a trip through Chico's so they can snorkel while I dive.

I have had a lot of fun at Los Arcos. Some people have said that there is not much to see, but there was wildlife all-over-the-place when I went last October.

There is a great little taco stand in Zona Romantica for post-dive eats...Calamari Adventurda (Frisky Squid).

Peace,

Aug

Pacific Scuba or Twin Dolphins will take snorkelers as well.

Just got back yesterday from Puerto Vallarta and I had a blast. Lutz at OceanQuest is a good friend of mine and he treated my firends and I to a great time.

It is a small operation, but we had a great boat captain and together he and Lutz made sure that we each had a wonderful experience.

Vis isn't that great right now, but it gets better around 60' and deeper. Water is a bit cool, but nothing that a 3mil wetsuit couldn't handle. Devil's Canyon at Los Arcos had the best vis, but our group had the best time at Mahajuitas (sp?).

I just came home from PV on May 2nd. The diving was pretty good. Viz was only about 40' but there were lots of creatures everywhere. As far as Pacific SCUBA goes I wouldn't recommend them. I might be the exception but since you're asking I'm telling. My brother-in-law was doing a referral open water and we decided to book with PS after reading lots of good things about them on this message board. I sent several e-mails and got confirmation for our dives and equipment needed. The night we got in we went to see them. They had me on a dive boat but not my brother-in-law. They didn't have an instructor scheduled for his referral and the lunk head kid in the shop didn't do much to help resolve the problem. He was very confused on what we needed and who we booked with. After about 10 minutes we decided to leave.

After PS we ended up at Chico's dive shop downtown. This was an awesome outfit. They took us right in, set up an instructor for my brother-in-law, and had us squared away for the next morning. The divemasters and captain were great, very helpful, and very personable. We had a great time and ended up doing several dives with them. I took my own gear but if you're renting they had mostly new gear. The water was in the high 60's to 70 and all they had for exposure protection were 6mm shorties. I dove in a 3 mm full suit and was fine.

I hope this helped you out. Like I said I heard good things about PS and Chico's but PS just didn't work out for me.
