I did a bone head thing the other day after my dive. Forgot to put the dust cap on the first stage and did not notice it until I pulled it out of the tank after 2 hours of soaking.

Upon noticing this wonderful revelation I grabbed a tank and connected it to the first stage and my BCD proceeded to purged the second stage and BCD inflator/Duo Air Octo for about 2 minutes.

Is there anything else I could have done? What could be the possible ramifications in the short and long run?

I have worked on regs that have had that happen.

Not really much else you can do, other than purging it. You may take it your LDS and have them check the IP, maybe change the filter. If the IP is "creeping" , they may need to disassy further to see whats wrong.

Is the filter discolored??, green = saltwater, not good

Fresh water wont really harm the 1st stage, its the salt and other contaminants.
