Some time ago, I ordered the TUSA IQ-800 dive computer. Due to back orders and other unexplained delays, it finally arrived today. I read the manual but was puzzled by the page devoted to "PC Transfer Mode". This page tells you how to put the computer in the "PC Transfer Mode" and shows pictures of the "screen" during this operation. However, there is no explanation of how to actually move the data from the dive computer to a pc. Searching on the web suggested that there is another piece of hardware required, but no illustrations involving cables, connectors or adapters.

1. Does anyone out there have experience with this dive computer?
2. Have you ever transferred your dive data to a pc?
3. Is additional hardware/software required? Cables?
4. Where can I go to get this info if it isn't right in the forefront of your mind?

I did ask at the LDS where I purchased the dive computer but the owner is "travelling" and the counter jockey isn't even a certified diver. Didn't know if there was supposed to be more hardware included, or if I had to order addtional stuff. Very frustrating.

And to top it off, I am leaving Saturday morning for Ft. Lauderdale to catch the Nekton Pilot to do my first live aboard in the northern Bahamas. Any timely information would be greatly appreciated. Strictly speaking, there is no reason I need to know before the trip but it irritates me that I have to dig for information that (it seems to me) ought to be in the manual.

Thanks,

Steve Egner:
Hey Art,

I use that computer, and I like it a lot. I haven't purchased the download kit, but I found one at www.diversdiscount.com for $159.95. I purchased my computer in December '05, and my LDS offered me the kit for $120'ish.

Have a great trip,

Steve

Thanks. This looks very similar to an illustration I saw elsewhere on the web. But it did not list a model number. I should be able to run this down now. A thousand thanks.

And this Bahamas trip is going to be a screaming blast.

We stock those too... be sure to get the proper one - they are different from the 700 and the 800. And yes, they are $120 - and the software is a free download from the tusa site. Here's a link to their download page: http://www.tusa.com/software.shtml

I appreciate your response. I'm in the final throes of getting ready for the dive trip so I probably won't be able to do anything until I get back. But thank you for the info.

If you're handy in building electronics yourself, you might want to have a look at:

Although I'm really not sure if the DIY-interface also works with the IQ-800, it's worth trying!

From the pictures of the interface, it looks like there are only 2 connection pins. Next step is to put the IQ800 into PC-mode and measure the voltage (with a voltmeter) accross the contacts. If this is about 3.0 volts, the interface might actually work. Be VERY carefull to connect the interface with the CORRECT POLARITY to the divecomputer (check with voltmeter).
