Hose Protectors.

Some say "take them off, they hide defects, collect sand and crap and damage the hose and fitting"

Other say "keep them on they protect the hoses, but be sure to clean under them every washdown"

What is the opinions of this illustrious Board?

I hate the things.
Always unraveling off the hoses if you dont tape them down.
Provide on extra protection, you cant see if the hose is damaged. Look stupid, increase drag, take up more room in the dive tub.

and not DIR :boom:

In short serve no purpose.

Chris

Actually I was refering to just the rubber boots on the end.
The Spiral wrap is a non-argument.....

You should have been more specific Aqua..

I use clear ones.
They are great I can see if there is any damage or grit underneath them, and they prevent the hose bending to much at the join and splitting after time.

Chris

but then again I've never seen clear ones....

Tom

I made them myslef for that exact reason.
I forget the name of the product but I got it here in Aus.

It is a liquid rubber material, comes in lots of colours and clear as well. The kind they dip the end of gardening gloves in... if you get my drift.

Anyway have the tin at home so will let you know the company.
I just made a mould from playdough and poured this stuff in. works a treat

Cheers
Chris

Sydney_Diver,
Is the mold made in a way that also 'casts' the center holes of the protectors?

Scuba446 once bubbled...
Sydney_Diver,

Yes that is correct,
made a tube few millimeters smaller than the width of the hoses then another to site around it to make the width of the protector then poured the rubber in, pushed the playdough out of the center once the rubber had dried, then sanded smooth edges and it is done.

hope that maked sense :D
