On the 4th of July I had been talking to Catherine about driving up to the Tantalus lookout to watch the fireworks and take some pictures. I told her that if I weren't such a chicken I would go up their by myself to watch the show.

She asked what I was afraid of and ya know, I have heard so many stories about robberies, rapes and such occurring in the jungle of Tantalus that I just didn't feel safe going up there in the dark, pitch dark since there are no street lights on that road...especially since part of the road was closed due to land slides last spring...only one way in and one way out.

As the day progressed Catherine's son made plans to go out on a boat, fish a bit and watch the fireworks out on the water. She said she was sorry that she couldn't join me and that she felt as if she were abandoning me.

I couldn't motivate Roger to drive up there with me so we stayed at home.

This past Thursday 3 people were killed up at the lookout we had planned to visit....Here is the story and a few more links

....kinda leaves you with a strange feeling....

I'm glad you're ok - what a shame that such a beautiful area is marred by so much violence. I love going up there to see Honolulu, probably the most scenic spot on the island.

Aloha, Tim

yea, that was strange because I usually do not heed warnings, but your words kept echoing in my ears that day...

I had funny thoughts, involving weapons, and ultimately felt we were not supposed to be up there that night. Leesa, you are not a chicken. I think you are intuitive.

We do not have much violent crime here outside of domestic abuse. I have noticed a big increase lately. Much mental illness has roots in the Ice epidemic, I think.

We are both pretty instinctive which is why we dive well together.

I always know what she is likely to do.

(look in holes, its a no-brainer) Meanwhile, I scan the horizon! We have it covered.

Becky, you still diving the night dive to the Sea Tiger, yes? We should round up Chepar.

Wow. Glad you guys are OK.

not that my boating fiasco was any safer. I still lost a camera. just not at gunpoint!

I wish neither would have happened :(

do you think your camera might show up again?
