Will someone please explain what the heck wings are?

Please, if you are thinking about a joke that involves a bird or a plane then find a new sense of humor, because that would be wayy too easy!

things you pull off flies when you're a kid:wink:

Only did it 'cause you already got an answer from Spectre:)

it is in place of a bc. It provides the bouyancy in a backplate setup.

you have a metal backplate with a nylon strap harness. The wing gets bolted to the back of the plate. Then the tank(s) strap on the back of the wing .

here's some pictures .

edit: SAME LINK AS ABOVE, ignore.

There is a pic of just the wing... and of somebody wearing the entire setup.

but more like a BC 'a la carte!

Take one from column "A", one form column "B", and one from column "C"!

"A"
Plate- provides rigidity and is the foundation of the system.
or
Softpak- like a plate, only not rigid (flacid is a good description)
or
Hybrid (like the OMS IQ)- has a plate and lots of padding.

"B"
Wing (or air cell)- many variations, including size, number of bladders and whether they are bungeed or not. These provid lift for the system.

"C"
Air supply-a single with or without a STA (Single Tank Adapter), or doubles. May or may not be used with the incredibly low tech and yet highly controversial spreader plate to eliminate the taco effect of having a large wing on a single tank.

You mix and match to your heart's desire... though some may faint at any of a number of your choices. You get to tailor this to your diving needs-NOT THEIRS!!! :tease:

OK, you got me. Please show a picture of a spreader plate. I assume taco effect means tank wrap. Is this kind of like bending the wing down and attaching the lower corners to the waist area like Zeagle does?
