dolphin fins

i remember watching this show on tv and this freediver had what looked like regular freediving fins then when she was swimming down in the navy pool she kinda hooked the fins together and used a dolphin kick. the fins looked like a tail can anyone tell me how these work and where to get them

You're probably thinking of a monofin - they are now the rage within the competitive freedive community. Their use began in Finswimming which if I'm not mistaken, originated in the Eastern block countries. Russia even has a fin swimming training facility in Tomsk, Siberia.

The efficiency with a monofin is substantial, but you need to know how to swim with one - only a handful of people I know of can train someone to swim with one effectively - Aharon Solomon's is one of them - check out his website at www.freedivers.net.

You can purchase monofins from several places, Leisure Pro, diveINN, Waterway (http://www.finswimworld.com/) are some that come to mind off hand.
