Watching the movie Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest adds new meaning to the concept of the Kraken.
 
From my knowledge of mythology....I have never seen the Kraken depicted as an octopus or whatever it was in the movie
 
that is one supposition....

the other is....holliwood got it wrong again.

Wikipedia and other sites all picture the Kraken as a giant octopus. Whatever shape it occupied he or she was a baaaaaad assssss!

Are you mistaking the Laviathon (sorry spelling?) with the Kraken.
 
Actually, the Kraken has its roots in Norse mythology and, yes, it was either a giant octopus or squid.
