I am looking at a getting an MK25 and either a G250 or S555. It seems they are very similar in cost and design. Any pros or cons one way or the other?

I find the adjustment feature very useful in current and surge conditions. It also make it easy for me to tune my regs a bit on the hot side and compensate with the adjustment as necessary. Also, I don't believe the 550 has the seat saver feature like the 250HP. If you plan to service (new seat) annually, that may not be so important.

I'd go for the G250, it's supposedly a little better breathing, and I've read that SP will be discontinuing it fairly soon, which means it may be harder to buy new in the future. This would be a shame, as the G250 is a proven workhorse. Don;t worry about SP supporting it in the event they are discontinuing it; they're really good about supporting regs for many years; I can easily get my 25 year old balanced adjustable serviced.

All of SP's balanced second stages (except the X650) use the same poppet, so parts will not be a problem even if the G250HP is discontinued.

In fact, this newest poppet is retrofittable into SP's older metal cased balanced second stage, the R156 Balanced Adjustable, and slightly newer and also discontinued G250.
