The Kowloon Bridge, a wreck off the coast of Baltimore in SW Ireland is under threat of salvage due to the value of its cargo of iron ore and the value of the steel from which its constructed. Last summer ownership rights changed hands and this August detailed surveys of the wreck have been made in order to assist salvage.

The wreck is one of the largest in the world by tonnage and it is home to an abundance of marine life. The wreck also makes an amazing dive and is well worth travelling to Ireland for. If the diving community loses the wreck it will be a massive loss and it will also destroy the home of thousands of marine creatures including some rarer examples such as ling and anglerfish.

The local dive centre Aquaventures have started a petition through diving web site Dive Site Directory located here:

We certainly don't want all that oil disturbed onboard . I signed the petition. Being that my wife is Irish we will eventually make a trip over there.
Thanks

.

I think it's good to make it known to the owner that there are other groups with an interest in this wreck, but it's also only logical that the owner wants to profit from it.

Perhaps the owner could be pursuaded to leave it there in exchange for licencing diving rights to charter companies.... You'll need to explore something like this if you're looking for a win/win.
