I finally picked up a strobe for my Canon S60. It's a manual strobe, so it took plenty of shots to get a fix on how to set it. This is the first decent picture I got today (Catalina). Other than the out of focus foreground stuff, it's not too bad. I didn't do any post processing other than about a 20% crop. Please be nice and remember I'm nowhere near the artistic level yet, just trying to get my pictures to look decent. I do of course accept all comments and suggestions. Thanks.

I am no pro, but it looks pretty good to me. What type of strobe are you using ?

It's just the basic Sea Life fully manual job. There weren't a lot of option in my price range. The strobe has nothing but a power dial, an on/off/test switch, and a fiber optic cable electircal taped to the built in camera strobe. I think the hard part is going to be to remember/learn to adjust the strength for each picture. I'll probably try to bracket the light setting manually whenever I can.

Oh great, something else to practice. Just kidding, thanks for the advice, I'll need to work on that as well.

Nice job. An Octopus in a hole is a really tough shot to get the lighting right on. I had a terrible time taking basically the same shot in the same location. When you post a photobucket shot, you can just copy the "img" line under the pic and paste it into your text. You may need to shrink it to a usable size, though.

Eek! I just re-read my own post. I really need to learn to spell check before hitting the "post" button. "electircal", come on. That's almost like nuke-u-lar.

Good work! A manual strobe and manual exposure control what a novel idea! Try aperture priority and adjust the aperture to control the exposure or in your case with the Sealife strobe adjust the manual power settings. Fancy that another $150 strobe...this time with variable power settings!
