I'm going to be in Halifax for all of November. I keep hearing weird rumours that East Coast diving is seasonal (at least I hear talk of a "diving season"). Tell me this isn't true! If it is, is November close enough to "the Season". I'm hoping to get in a charter to a wreck or two (our wrecks are either fake or in little pieces). Is the weather decent enough to run tourist boats out of the harbour at that time of year? I can almost sense the answer, but are there any wreck dives done in the harbour itself? I'll also try for a few shore dives. Are there any reasonably close to downtown (taxi ride-distance)? Are there any dive shops near the water where you can rent a bit of gear and walk into the water (I know...not likely)? Thanks.

Hi there, the scheduled charters finish up around end-Nov but from now through the winter it really depends on weather conditions. Most of the wrecks within 130ft here are in little pieces as well. We have a "fake" wreck too, the HMCS Saguenay.

There are no shore dives into the harbour this time of year, but some will go in winter to hunt for bottles, china etc. It's a rather polluted harbour so not a good idea any other time of year. You would have to go a ways out of the city to find good shore diving. A popular area is around St. Margaret's Bay.

There is a dive community in NS that would be a better place to ask questions, more divers from the area to help you out:

Also this is the most popular charter operator to the wrecks near Halifax:

Another to the 'fake' wreck off Lunenburg:

And a dive shop that should be able to help out with scheduled shore & boat dives:

good luck!
