Try not to wash it frequently.
What you should do is buy some Tech Wash or similar (anything that's labeled for *washing* Gore-Tex should be good... there are products that are supposed to restore the waterproofness of Gore-Tex, but that's not what you want) at an outdoor goods store like REI. Then find a front-loading washing machine and wash it on the gentle cycle with the Tech Wash.
When it's done washing, lay it down to dry. Don't hang it up, it may stretch and sag under its own weight.
