Hi all! Am interested in a getting a digicamera for diving purposes. I've got a simple Canon iZoom which I bring around when I travel cos it's light and compact. Problem is, there's no waterproof housing for it, so I'm now on the market for a basic one with has a waterproof housing. I really don't want to spend too much, and of course, I know that the picture quality won't be that fantastic. Do you reckon that I could get an entry level digital camera, would it do the job? My concern is whether the waterproof housing would leak or make it cumbersome to operate.

Cheers!

Alan, what's your budget?

As for leaking, I think you're pretty safe with any of the major digicam makers (Sony, Oly, Canon, Fuji, etc) as long as you take the usual precautions/ care of the o-rings/ sealing. I wouldn't worry too much about it especially with a small pt and shoot with no ports or sync cables to add extra potential leak spots.

Hmm... SGD500 is about US$320... that pretty much puts a lot of cameras within your budget with the exception of any just released 10megapixel match box sized compact with built in image stabilizing...

I haven't really been following the point n shoot scene lately. Depending on whether you don't mind having a larger camera, maybe a Canon A630 or even a A710? If you're leaning more towards a true pocket size camera, maybe something like the Fuji F30. Take a look around this forum, www.digitaldiver.net, to see what people are using.
