The only reason I am posting this is to share the love.

Parking in a boat trailer stall at the State Boat Harbor is a crime requiring you to appear before a judge. If you look on the website, you will see that it is punishable by prison.

No option to pay by mail.

This spot was not marked. And almost all the spots were empty.

I appeared for JB since we were in my car and he is away on some frivolous activity and cannot take a day for court.

I appeared at courtroom A, like the letter said, at 08:30 and cleared security and was searched.

The sign said "check for your name outside courtroom" My name was not there. My first thought was "yay, just leave"...but I resist my natural instincts.

The door was locked. I entered the next courtroom "B" and waited ten minutes for a break in the judge's ruling and asked the bayliff why my name was not on the list. She told me to go to Courtroom "A".

Courtroom A is still locked and no one is there. Now it is 08:50

I go back to bayliff and whine.

I get sent from office to office as people explain that a default ruling and a bench warrant was issued against me because I was not in court. I said I was in court and they say that they only have my word. I tell them to check the many cameras rolling in every hallway I have been in. They laugh.

I keep asking for a supervisor and taking names for two hours. Finally someone appears and says that they will ammend my crime to a regular ticket for 35.00 cash. I whine that I want to write a check and they point to the ATM machine.

I say I will pay the cash. I pay the cash and ask for a court date to protest because I feel that I have just fed the beast.

I am given paperwork with a new court date and a memo that says "illegal parking --no sign required"

My tips

When you enter the courthouse, take your camera phone and get your picture next to the clock.
Take a notebook and write down each person's name and what they say. Don't expect to accomplish anything except documentation for later.

Don't look for parking because there is not any (and they tell you this on the website)

Park in the ghetto on Pacific Heights road near the Shell station and call THE CAB.
Cheaper, easier. No clock ticking, no more cash grab.

Stay calm, be appreciative that they searched you for weapons for your own good.

Document. Stand up for your rights and marvel at the glazed -over despondent citizens
milling through the rope corrals with their long faces and fists of cash. It was almost fun.

Consider yourself lucky. I am being investigated by the SEC. For three years now. Charges? Pending. Ultimately, when they get around to it, they will propose a settlement for a figure slightly less than what it would cost me in legal fees to defend myself. I will pay it--neither admitting nor denying guilt--and the charade of market regulation will continue.

You should have seen my divorce hearing...I feel like I was called everything short of child pornography... :frown: Luckily, the judge sees this all day long every day... and asked her some questions before granting it. Yay!

catherine96821,
Sorry, for you loss (of time and sanity) :D

You're lucky they didn't throw you in jail and throw away the key.:D
:joke::joke::joke:

yea, don't fly with Viagra in your Zip-lock.

Which reminds me of another thing!

Flying last week, we watched in incredulous disbelief as TSA employees dumped a guys belongings because his "Zip-lock" was not a actually zip-lock brand, but a quart sized self sealing clear bag of some other brand. Is a GED a requirement for that job?

Cool-tech, if there is any way to avoid a divorce lawyer creating billable hours..... deal with the devil first.

Actually, I don't need sympathy..but thanks. I already found a loophole to save myself 500 dollars that would normally go to the state. It just motivated me to advocate for myself more strongly. The state loses when they alienate law- abiding, tax-paying citizens and make us feel we are not in partnership with our own government.

But then, I was already taken to the labor board by an illegal alien. Funny how that works.

OOPs..I can see that this could be slippery. So...my only point is: Do not commit a parking "crime" at the boat ramp.
Because we all know that the prisons are crowded.

Yep, did that and felt better that we were able to avoid the big "L" bill. Now... anyone looking for a upscale home in Tampa, Fl. .... PM me :D

(never give up an opportunity to sell a FSBO)... :grin

Glad you're ok Catherine - the "system" here oft times makes little sense ... I just spent 2 hrs at DMV trying to transfer ownership of a car ... found out I have to turn in the plates ... which are on Oahu - no they said I can't transfer plates till the car is on Maui... that puts it past the 30 day transfer limit - $50 fine ... and I can't ship the car until it's in my name anyway ... AAAAAARRRRGGGGG !!!

yes ... everything is perfectly synchronized in Hawaii ... for confusion

P.S. sry you're day wasn't just an "inconvenience" like mine was though :(

At least it's the SEC and not the Department of Justice.
