Hi,

A dive buddy of mine purchased a Transpac BC recently and complained about rust stains on the tank strap buckle. She checked with the retailer and distributor (in Singapore) and were told it is a "common problem". I had a chance to look at buckle and it did look like it had a different finish from the d-rings.

I find that really difficult to accept since a BCD is meant to be in a wet environment.

Has anyone had similar experiences?

Check this link: http://www.aalco.co.uk/technical/stainless.html

You will learn more than you ever cared to know about stainless steel. First and foremost is that it is corrosion resistant not corrosion proof. The most common complaint is that the buckle is rusting----which turns out to be the result of water being allowed to sit in the little pockets on the sides of the buckle. This design is being changed.
