I will be in the Keys for 5 days before we leave on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean so I wanted to get some diving in while we are down there. We will be in the Key West for 3 days and Key Largo for 2 days. I did a search here and based on everyone's recommendations we are booked with Bluewater Divers in Key Largo. I have dove with Southpoint divers in Key West but wanted to try someone new and found good reviews of Subtropic in Key West. I checked thier website last week but didn't call them until today. Today their website is down and no one answers the phone (not even a recording)... Does anyone know if they are still in business and/or does anyone have other suggestions for Key West? Thanks in advance.

I have dove with Lost Reef Scuba several times, and they were always good, clean, uncrowded boat, friendly, knowaledgeable staff. When I go back, I just dive with them, and don't feel the need to try other dive ops.

Having just dove Key West, I recommend that you skip it. Go just up the road a few mile to Big Pine. Much better.

we are down there every August with our Timeshare at the Galleon..Stay away from Lost Reef..They have taken us out to a 6'-10' reef on a scuba trip after telling us they were going to Joes tug and a reef..reason was they placed snorklers on the boat ,even after I asked at the shop if there was to be any snorklers on the boat and they said no..I complained about it on return-sat out the dives, why bother, and they could not care less.Even after I told them I work in the industry and was very disappointed in their performance.I usually dive up out of cudjoe or Big Key .. Used a friends boat or rented one..If you want to dive out of Key West go with Captains corner in old town or go up to Dive Key West up the road ..

SubTropic's web site is up today. might have been a fluke?

I dove with them a couple years ago. I was happy with them. The diving in Key West just isn't that great though compared to the rest of the keys.

Unless you want to go to do the Duval Crawl or Fantsay Fest, not much of a reason to go back to Key West. Just stop on one of the other keys.

If Subtropic doesn't work out, Try Captains Corner..it's a cattle boat depending on the season but they're competant and reliable!
(plus there's a great restaurant at the docks where you pick up the boat..Conch Republic Seafood Company...aka "The Conch Farm"!)

Btw...great choice with BlueWater!

Musta been a fluke, I'll try and give them a call today after I check out Dive Key West and Captains Corner... Gotta check the options. :)

Also going to see if there is an operator in Big Pine.

We will be there from the 24th to the 27th... If you end up wanting to dive jump on a boat with us.

Lost Reef is good, friendly service and as already mentioned, usually not crowded boats
