Ben_ca asked if I would write a sticky to answer the usual questions from divers new
to Monterey. Note: I don't intend for THIS thread to become the sticky. Once we
thrash out what should be in it, I'll start a new thread to be the sticky. So
here's a first draft. Your comments please. Both this post and the pages it points at
are fair game.

So you want to dive Monterey? The water is cold, vis is often not so hot, but the
invertebrate life and the kelp forest are absolutely world-class. Remember how when
you got certified, your card said something about "in conditions similar to those you
were trained in"? That applies in spades in Monterey. Because of the temperature, the
vis, and the kelp, there are some things you need to know before you jump in. So read:

And there's lots more Monterey dive info at:

Nothing like that on my C-Card.... Padi OW 2001

Great start Chuck... Maybe little more detail into the FAQ's we see... (most are answered on your page)

Wet suit or Dry (and how thick)

Where to start

How do I find buddies

Great idea, Chuck. I do plan to get up there and dive before my body wears out so this would be quite helpful.

Chuck Tribolet:
Can somebody supply the exact words (about similar conditions) off a recent PADI OW
card?

My older one doesn't say anything about it either.

And thanks for doing the Sticky, Chuck, we always seem to refer to your website when people ask about Monterey diving.
