It cost about the same for a trip to either place, which one would be better diving?

Caymaniac

Both are excellent, of course. The quality of the diving will depend on where you go, time of the year, etc, etc.

Are you looking for a particular type of diving? Planning any side trips?

My experience was that Fiji had higher currents, more soft corals, and was accessible from land-based operations.

Australia/GBR was easier, sort of like the Cayman Islands but with more species -- although you really should go on a liveaboard because the best reefs are quite far out. It was worth the extra $$ and time to do the Coral Sea.

If you pay for my tickets, I'd be happy to go so some more research for you... :)
