I have a set of Mk17's and i was wondering the best way to route the hose, currently i have the first stage pointing to the valve knob, Should I try it, so that the first to is pointing away.

i used to have mk16's (essentially the same reg) and thats pretty much the way i did it...make sure all of the hoses point down and you will be fine.
 
I like mine pointing down. The black cap to the bottom. Route the second stage out the HFP, and octo out the low pressure port above.
