hello,
We are two couples planning a dive trip to Cozumel ,we have been there before the storm...Is it still worth it?
We stayed at Iberostar and did not really like the "all inclusive" scene
We are looking for a rental place , villa or hotel suite that would be comfortable , more on the high end side and were we could cook some nights
or go to restaurants .
We would dive everyday and hopefully have the dive op pick us up..
We are experienced divers.
The only place I found was Villa Aldora I imagine there are many more recommendations.
Thanks

Yes, absolutely, in my opinion. I have been diving Cozumel for 15 years; I have been there twice since Wilma and I'm going back in May. It's different since the storm, and in some places not as good, but overall it's still the best bang for my diving buck.

You might want to check out the condos at El Cantil. Well located, nicely appointed, easy pick up by dive ops, Chedraui across the street, a few minutes walk to town (maybe 10-15? ish), beautiful ocean views from balconies...

And, yes, it's worth it. Changed, perhaps, but still lovely under and above water.

Hi Snowfish,

You might take a look at www.cozumel.tc. They have alot of different rentals... villas, condos, homes. Many different locations options but all on the water. Priced from middle to high end. LOL.

Cozumel is definitely worth it! My wife and I were there in Aug, and she is going back in April. We liked Casa Mexicana, although you would be unable to cook, it is a great hotel in a central location. Also, if you can find a rental condo at Naha (nahacondominiums.com I think) they would be a great choice. You and your group will have a great time! For an unsolicited recommendation, check out scubatony.com for the best dive operation on the island.

Might want to look into Casa Carlita as well. It's a few blocks behind the Chedraui Grocery Store and is a perfect set-up for 2 couples. It's got all the amenities - 2 bedroom, 2 bath, full kitchen .. and a pool! And at a pretty great price. We met the owners a few years ago on a flight in, and just haven't had the opportunity to try the place out yet ourselves. If we find another couple to travel with one of these days, this will be the first place I checkout!!

We've stayed at the Villa Aldora, and I would recommend it highly. Very, very nice. It's just far enough out of town to be quiet, but still close enough to walk to, if you want. Or a cab to town is $3. We did the same thing, cooked in a little, ate out a little. Nice, little beach, infinity pool, and some great snorkeling right in front of the Villa. The dive shop will also deliver tanks if you want to do a little shore diving there. If you dive with Aldora, they will also pick you up at the dock right in front of the Villa.

No, it is completely destroyed and everyone was killed by the storm.

Yep, Cozumel sank into the sea during Wilma, a la Atlantis. Move along, nothing to see here... ;^)

It's definitely still worth the trip! I agree with the El Cantil recommendation. We stayed there last June and just LOVED the place. We ate breakfast & lunch in the condo and walked to town every evening for dinner. We'll be back in Cozumel at the end of May, staying at El Cantil and diving with Blue XT~Sea (BTW, if you need a dive op, I highly recommend them).
