I just bought 2 of these Boat Coat (http://cgi.ebay.com/SCUBA-DIVER-POLAR-BREAKER-COAT-windbreaker-boat-jacket_W0QQitemZ290084490294QQihZ019QQcategoryZ130 0QQtcZphotoQQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) . Not quite as long as most, but that works well for me. They seem nice and warn, and the price is RIGHT!

I found a terrycloth version, no zip- pancho style on ebay for about $15 a few months ago, can't remember the sellers ID tho. Not really a coat, but great for changing on the beach!

As others have pointed out, you can get cheap "Boat Coat"-style long jackets with a little bit of searching. Try searching under "stadium jackets" or swimming jackets.
The Dive Gear Boat Coat is pretty nice, though. This past year they made some significant improvements to the design that you may or may find on other coats. For instance, the velco wrist closures are now backed with nylon.
BTW, my girlfriend and I each bought a Dive Gear Boat Coat and are very happy with them.

Athletic companies do them the best and the cheapest, 50 bucks each, buy one for the whole team: http://www.rennoc.com/catalog/i70.html

thankyou. Used different searches and "swim parka" turned up the best deals. Here's an example.

Sure beats the $150 "dive coat".

a number of my swimmers have these and absolutely love them - they started in late 70's/early 80's so they have the bugs worked out for sure

Dive coats can be expensive. I found something that isn't called a dive coat but works extremely well. I found it in Sam's Army/Navy Outlet. Waterproof on the exterior and wool on the inside and goes below the knees. I know it does not come from the US Armed Forces but no mattter it's warm in November out on the water in places like Missouri and the Great Lakes. So, try your nearest Army-Navy store and see what you dig up.

Yep . . . truwest coat definitely the way to go. Even though I live and dive in south florida, I use it during the winter months to keep warm between dives (those north winds during the a.m. dives can be brutal!!). I particularly liked the fact that it can be customized.
